Policy for Outreach
The policy outlined below is intended to ensure that any work undertaken by Bridging the Gap staff members, away from the main office base as described in our Statement of Service document, is carried out in the interests of our staff members and clients with due regard to Health and Safety issues.

Bridging the Gap aims to:

* Check that all premises used for any purpose by a staff member or client is, to the best of our knowledge, in accordance with current health and safety practice. We acknowledge that it is not practical to dictate Health and Safety Policy to other organisations.

* Ensure that appropriate health and safety guidelines are available to be viewed.

* Ensure that staff members using outreach venues are aware of the health and safety regulations that apply to the premises they are using.

* Ensure that a certificate of compliance with fire regulations exists.

* Ensure that a certificate of public liability insurance exists.

* Use premises which are suitable for access by the person(s) in question.

* Use premises which contain suitable facilities for use by the person(s) in question, and for the purpose of the visit.

* Use premises with the appropriate equipment for use by the person(s) in question, and for the purpose of the visit.

* Use premises within a reasonable distance of the client’s residence (with the agreement of the staff member in question).

* Keep records (and make the responsible organisation aware) of unsuitable or unsafe premises or working practices. We will avoid use of such premises until the identified problem is remedied.

This document was last updated on 21st May 2003. It is reviewed annually in line with relevant Health & Safety practice and Guidance Council recommendations.
