Business & Partnership
Since Bridging the Gap was established back in 1999, we have been striving to create ‘real’ working partnerships with other support organisations and with the business sector in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
Although we have a number of key partners which we work most closely with, we are always trying to develop working relationships with others who’s aims are in keeping with our own.

This section of our website concentrates on these working relationships. At the top of the page are a selection of headings to choose from to find out more details.

Links With employers and employer Organisations

When Bridging the Gap was first established, one of its key objectives was to build bridges between the unemployed and employers. This pre-dated the Government's launch of 'New Deal', which took on board many of the recommendations made by various reports, including building closer relationships between the unemployed and employers.

Bridging the Gap works in close co-operation with Jobcentre Plus, in the city, to ensure the project adds value to the Government's New Deal programme. This includes people being referred from Jobcentre Plus to Bridging the Gap and from Bridging the Gap to other New Deal providers. The project also works with a wide range of partner organisations to ensure that clients can access specialist support to meet a wide range of needs.

As a result of New Deal, Bridging the Gap now works with those unemployed who are less 'job ready', who tend to suffer from multiple disadvantage, have been out of the labour market for over two years, need further support before moving back into New Deal, or are non-registered job-seekers.

The nature of the relationship between employers and Bridging the Gap has also changed as a direct result of New Deal and other local projects which are more focused on securing work placements and employment for unemployed people.

Bridging the Gap now focuses specifically on what it does best - moving unemployed people towards employment and training through the provision of one-to-one support, advice and guidance. Staff work directly with a wide range of partner organisations to ensure that job-ready clients have access to work placements, work trials and employment vacancies plus other support such as help with CV preparation, job search skills and interview techniques.
